Equipment Covered

The course is based on operational use of the TOTEM PLUS ECDIS VERSION NO. 3.0

The only ECDIS with a Decision Support Tool (DST) for collision avoidance at sea, offering

Advice that complies with international regulations for preventing collisions.

Totem ECDIS features are uniquely designed to enhance safety on board ships:

Collision Avoidance: The system not only alerts the Master or OOW to the risk of collision, but also advises the best course or speed change needed to avoid collision.

EDA: A free copy of EDA is included with every ECDIS. EDA allows proper auditing of bridge team performance and assists in monitoring the vessel's performance.

GPS Validation: To prevent GPS spoofing, Totem ECDIS monitors the difference between DR and GPS positions at all times and issues an alarm if the difference exceeds the allowed distance within a set time.

Watch Take Over: The watch take over procedure, implemented by every officer commencing a watch on the bridge, provides the OOW with a clear picture of the system's functionality. This procedure ensures that the system is configured and operating correctly, sensor information is accurate, the correct charts are available, and the license is valid.

AIS Update and AIS Messages: Totem ECDIS enables direct updating of AIS from the ECDIS, allowing the sending and receiving of AIS messages using the full keyboard capability. This feature is designed to be simple and user-friendly.

Multilingual: Totem ECDIS has multilingual capabilities. In addition to English (the main language), the menu can be changed to several other languages of choice.

Radar Overlay: Totem ECDIS has the capability to connect two radars on a single radar overlay card.

Planning Station or Captain’s ECDIS: A third PC can be connected to the Dual ECDIS via LAN, serving as a planning station and receiving serial information over LAN from the Dual ECDIS, eliminating the need for a dedicated serial interface (optional).
VDR Integration: ECDIS screens are transferred by LAN to VDR in accordance with IEC 61162-450.
