ECDIS Type specific training Course on JRC JAN 901B/701B/2000 (Online)

The ECDIS system is offered in both stand-alone and desktop versions to accommodate different vessel types. The desktop version features a central processor unit that serves as the JAN-901B core of the system, enabling flexible installation in space-restricted areas. The JAN-901B is an advanced multi-functional ECDIS designed with ergonomic precision to optimize the working environment and improve man/machine interaction. It offers continuous position tracking and navigational safety information to ensure seamless and reliable maritime operations. With the new JAN-901B ECDIS series, you have four system options to choose from. Available in both desktop and stand-alone versions, these options are designed to accommodate your preferred installation method perfectly. The advanced JAN-901B ECDIS system offers versatile route planning options. You can plan your route using the table editor while displaying the current waypoint, or graphically draw your waypoints directly on the chart. Editing routes is just as straightforward as creating them, thanks to dedicated menus designed to assist mariners in effective route planning. Additionally, you can save routes and import your favorite or frequently used files, including those from previous ECDIS models, using the industry-standard CSV format.

Course Description

The JRC JAN-901B/701B/2000 type-specific training course equips officers with the essential system knowledge needed for effective watchkeeping, in compliance with STCW regulations and the ISM Code. This comprehensive tutorial spans approximately 16 hours and meets the equipment familiarization requirements outlined in IMO Model Course 1.27 and MCA MIN-503(M) for the JAN-901B/701B/2000 ECDIS systems. Upon booking the course, you have a three-week period to complete it, with the flexibility to revisit modules as needed. The “FreePlay” Mode allows you to practice using the manufacturer’s original, type-approved software. The course concludes with a final test of up to 1 hour, which can be retaken if necessary, leading to the award of an individual certificate.

This course is designed for all bridge team officers responsible for ensuring the safe navigation of the vessel.

Learning Outcomes

Module 1: The User Interface module explains the fundamental design features of the ECDIS, emphasizing the significant differences between various manufacturers.

Module 2: This module explains the procedure for adjusting the display to meet your requirements. This process is essential to ensure that all relevant information and alerts are captured while avoiding the cluttering of visual and audible information.

Module 3: The Chart Work module teaches trainees how to perform traditional paper chart tasks using the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS).

Module 4: The Alert Management module provides comprehensive knowledge on the management, handling, and interpretation of alarms, cautions, and warnings. Proper handling of alerts is crucial for the safety of navigation.

Module 5: This module covers how the ECDIS displays the vessel’s position, speed, and course in real-time on the chart, based on information received from navigational sensors. It also teaches the understanding of these sensors, the data they provide, and their limitations.

Module 6: The Route Planning module enables users to plan routes in compliance with general voyage plan requirements and specific instructions from the safety management systems of shipping companies and charterers.

Module 7: The Route Monitoring module familiarizes users with the ECDIS-specific route monitoring feature and teaches how to safely monitor the voyage and all related data.

Module 8: The Chart Maintenance module explains the processes of chart ordering, installation, and updating, considering that charts and updates may be received via the Internet or ship’s mail.

Module 9: The Backup Arrangement and Data Management module details the requirements that must be met when using ECDIS as the primary means of navigation.

Module 10: In addition to the essential features provided by ECDIS, there are various additional functions and types of information that can be displayed. This module explains features such as radar information overlay, wave analysis, NAVTEXT messages, and tidal information available on the ECDIS.
